The plan was to leave by 0530 am as out destination, Upper Goose Pond, is suppose to be a really awesome place to relax. With an early start, we hope to have plenty of time to relax. Left before 6am..close enough.
Medaglia d'oro instant espresso + lukewarm beaver pond water. Tastes better than it sounds. I think this stuff is the best instant coffee you can get on the trail... and it is cheaper than Starbucks VIA.
Advocado is always on the lookout for a good log or rock.
Smooth and fast downhill...must resist the urge to go fast and destroy my knees.
Hi deer!
Much better water...time to camel up.
Smooth fast trail...we are making good time.
Quick break at an overlook just before the AT Trail Stand.
Getting closer....the famed trail stand.
Woohoo... cold drinks, snacks and free charging! We took advantage of it, and with my wallet a bit lighter and my stomach full we hiked on.
A long stretch of boardwalk and bridge are about to collapse. We made it across, but it's going to be alot of work to replace it all.
More smooth valley walk, but we will be back to the mountains soon.
We were flying, making great time and not taking many breaks. The cabin was only 1.6 miles away and we turned up the speed. I was also concerned that we arrive as early as possible, as I did not want to arrive and find out all the bunks were full.
The side trail to the cabin.. we passed 3 people in the last few hours...we are motivated.
We made it. Time for a swim.
Just beautiful.
And a cabin to sleep in. Pretty good value considering it is free.
Less than 9 hours of hiking, we arrived before 3pm and after a dip in the lake we settled into relaxing on the porch and cooking a big dinner.
Wow! Love the cabin. :D

Happy that your plan worked to arrive early and get a spot at that great cabin and wonderful lake. Swimming after hiking has to be a "cool" change of activity. Press On!
